Doha, 16 May 2023 – His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali hailed the opening of the Guyana Embassy in Qatar on Tuesday as a momentous occasion, signaling a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations. President Ali, who is currently on an Official Visit to the Middle Eastern country, emphasized the shared values of peace, stability, and sustainability that bind Guyana and Qatar.

Describing the embassy opening as a symbol of the deep bond of friendship, love, and commitment between the two nations, President Ali highlighted the importance of physical representation in strengthening diplomatic ties. He expressed his belief that the establishment of the embassy would serve as a conduit for advancing the prosperity and well-being of the people of both countries and the world at large.

During his address, President Ali also shed light on Guyana’s current development trajectory and its global leadership role in climate security, energy security, and food security. As a nation blessed with abundant natural resources, Guyana is committed to sustainable development and has emerged as a key player in addressing climate change challenges. President Ali emphasized the country’s dedication to achieving a green economy and becoming a leader in renewable energy production.

The opening of the embassy marks an important milestone in the diplomatic relations between Guyana and Qatar, which were established in 1996. It signifies the growing significance of the bilateral ties and demonstrates both nations’ commitment to fostering closer cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

The Guyana Embassy in Qatar is expected to provide consular services to Guyanese citizens residing in Qatar, further strengthening people-to-people connections between the two nations.
