Windhoek, 17 May 2023 – The Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in Namibia marked the 43rd Independence Day of Zimbabwe on Wednesday with a grand celebration held in Windhoek. The event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Her Excellency Ms. Melody Chaurura, Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe to Namibia, and Honourable Jenelly Matundu, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, who served as the Guest of Honour.

Ambassador Chaurura commenced the festivities by emphasizing the profound historical ties that bind the Republic of Namibia and the Republic of Zimbabwe. She highlighted the shared struggles and victories that both nations experienced during their respective journeys to independence. The Ambassador expressed her gratitude for the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two countries and reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to fostering even stronger bilateral relations with Namibia.

Honourable Jenelly Matundu, in her address, acknowledged the robust and flourishing bilateral relations that currently exist between Namibia and Zimbabwe. She lauded the longstanding friendship, trade ties, and cultural exchange programs that have served to strengthen the bond between the two nations. Hon. Matundu commended the Government and the people of Zimbabwe on this significant milestone, emphasizing the progress made over the years and the resilience displayed by the nation.

The celebrations were marked by vibrant displays of Zimbabwean culture, with traditional music, dance performances, and art exhibitions enchanting the audience. Guests were treated to a taste of Zimbabwean cuisine, which included delicacies such as sadza, mupoto, and biltong. The colorful festivities reflected the rich cultural heritage and diversity of Zimbabwe, captivating all attendees.

Throughout the event, there was a palpable atmosphere of camaraderie and goodwill as diplomats, government officials, and members of the public mingled, sharing stories and forging new connections. The celebration provided a platform for individuals from both countries to celebrate Zimbabwe’s independence, reflect on shared histories, and explore avenues for future collaboration.
