Ibadan, Nigeria – The charge d’affaires of the Philippines Embassy in Nigeria, along with his accompanying delegation, paid a visit to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) on 19th May. The purpose of the visit was to engage in a courtesy call and explore potential areas of collaboration between the two nations in the field of agriculture.
During their visit, the Philippines delegation met with various representatives from the management of IITA, including Acting Director-General Hilde Koper-Limbourg and Acting Deputy Director-General for Partnerships for Delivery, Katherine Lopez. They also had the opportunity to interact with key staff members, scientists, and researchers from the renowned institute.

To enhance cultural understanding and foster relationships, the delegation took the opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Ibadan. The visit included notable landmarks such as the University of Ibadan’s Institute of African Studies, renowned for its art museum. The delegation also visited the historic Mapo Hall/Parliament Building and Cocoa House, iconic structures that reflect the rich heritage of the city.
Furthermore, the group had the chance to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of IITA’s forest and lake. This allowed the delegates to witness firsthand the unique environment where groundbreaking agricultural research takes place.

The charge d’affaires expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended by IITA and the people of Ibadan. He emphasized the importance of exploring collaboration opportunities between the Philippines and Nigeria, particularly in the agricultural sector. The charge d’affaires highlighted the potential for knowledge exchange and sharing best practices in areas such as crop research, sustainable farming techniques, and agricultural development.
Accompanying the charge d’affaires during the visit was Mr. Sam Adebole, the Science, Culture, and Arts Officer from the Philippines Consulate in Lagos. Mr. Adebole played a pivotal role in facilitating discussions and strengthening ties between the two countries.

The visit to IITA and the cultural tour of Ibadan served as significant steps toward fostering collaboration and partnership between the Philippines and Nigeria in the field of agriculture. Both nations recognize the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and research in ensuring food security and promoting economic growth.
