Message from Ambassador Jean-Marc Berthon on May 17, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia

Paris, France – In a resolute display of commitment, the French diplomatic corps has intensified its efforts to safeguard the rights of LGBT+ individuals around the world. On May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, Ambassador Jean-Marc Berthon delivered a powerful message underscoring France’s unwavering support for the global LGBT+ community.

Ambassador Berthon, a fervent advocate for equality and human rights, emphasized the crucial role of diplomacy in promoting inclusivity and combating discrimination. He reaffirmed France’s dedication to working hand in hand with international partners to eradicate homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia from societies worldwide.

Speaking from the heart, Ambassador Berthon stressed the imperative nature of the cause, asserting that “every individual deserves to live with dignity, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity.” He underscored the universality of human rights, noting that the fight for LGBT+ rights is inseparable from the broader struggle for equality and justice.

The French government has embarked on various diplomatic initiatives to advance the rights of LGBT+ individuals globally. Through partnerships and collaborations, France has actively supported efforts to decriminalize homosexuality, combat violence and discrimination, and promote legal protections for LGBT+ communities. Ambassador Berthon expressed France’s determination to continue working with other nations to address the systemic challenges faced by the LGBT+ community.

France’s steadfast commitment to LGBT+ rights is rooted in the country’s rich history of promoting equality and human rights. From the abolition of the death penalty for homosexuality in 1791 to the legalization of same-sex marriage in 2013, France has been at the forefront of progressive change. The message conveyed by Ambassador Berthon reflects the nation’s unwavering dedication to fostering a more inclusive and accepting world for all.

As the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia is celebrated worldwide, the French diplomatic community stands in solidarity with LGBT+ individuals and organizations working tirelessly to combat discrimination and promote acceptance. Through diplomatic channels, France aims to foster dialogue, raise awareness, and create an environment that respects and protects the rights of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The message delivered by Ambassador Berthon serves as a call to action, urging nations to join forces and redouble their efforts in the fight for LGBT+ rights. As French diplomacy mobilizes its resources and influence, it sends a clear signal that the promotion of equality and human rights remains a cornerstone of its foreign policy agenda.

In the face of adversity and challenges, France will continue to be an unwavering champion of the rights of LGBT+ people worldwide. By fostering collaboration, advocacy, and understanding, the French diplomatic corps aims to pave the way towards a more inclusive and accepting future for all individuals, irrespective of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
