Juba, South Sudan – In a significant stride towards regional integration and economic cooperation, South Sudan and Ethiopia sealed an agreement on Thursday to construct a highway linking the two countries. The signing ceremony took place in Juba, where South Sudan’s Finance Minister, Dr. Dier Tong Ngor, and Ethiopia’s Deputy Finance Minister, Eyop Tekalign, represented their respective governments.

The cross-border highway project holds immense promise, as it is expected to bolster economic ties and facilitate the seamless movement of people and goods within the Horn of Africa. President Kiir of South Sudan expressed optimism regarding the venture, emphasizing the positive impact it would have on regional commerce and connectivity.

With the signing of the agreement, South Sudan and Ethiopia reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cross-border infrastructure development. The highway will not only serve as a physical link between the two nations but also foster greater trade and cooperation across the region.

He emphasized the transformative potential of the cross-border highway, which will bring people closer together, promote cultural exchange, and facilitate closer collaboration between the two countries.

The construction of the highway signifies a shared commitment by South Sudan and Ethiopia to foster regional integration, enhance economic cooperation, and promote people-to-people interactions. The project aligns with the broader vision of the Horn of Africa nations to build a more interconnected and prosperous region.

The agreement sets the stage for the detailed planning, financing, and implementation of the highway project. It also paves the way for future collaborations and partnerships between South Sudan and Ethiopia, fostering a stronger foundation for economic growth and sustainable development in the region.
