In a move aimed at cementing the United Arab Emirates’ position as a global leader in climate change action, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has officially invited Faustin-Archange Touadera, President of the Central African Republic, to attend the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) on climate change.
The conference will take place in Dubai Expo City in November of this year, and is expected to draw high-level representatives from around the world to discuss strategies for reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change.
The invitation was hand-delivered by Rashid Saeed Al Shamsi, the UAE’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Central African Republic, during a meeting with President Touadera at the presidential palace in the country’s capital, Bangui.
In his letter, President Sheikh Mohamed emphasized the UAE’s commitment to addressing the urgent threat of climate change and called on leaders from around the world to join together in this critical effort.
“The UAE is proud to host COP28 and to serve as a platform for global cooperation and action on climate change,” the President wrote. “We look forward to welcoming you and your delegation to Dubai, and to working together to ensure a sustainable future for all.”
The invitation is the latest in a series of high-profile efforts by the UAE to position itself as a leader in climate change action. The country has made significant investments in renewable energy and has pledged to reduce its own carbon emissions by 23.5% by 2030.
With COP28 just months away, the UAE is ramping up its efforts to promote the conference and ensure that it is a success. The country has already announced plans to build a massive solar park in Dubai that will generate enough energy to power 320,000 homes and offset over 6.5 million tons of carbon dioxide each year.
As the world faces the urgent threat of climate change, the UAE is demonstrating its commitment to addressing this global challenge and is inviting leaders from around the world to join together in this critical effort.
