Despite recent attacks by Iran-backed militias on U.S. forces in Syria, the White House stated that the U.S. will not withdraw its troops from Syria and will continue its mission against the remnants of the Islamic State.
The attacks, which included a drone strike on a U.S. base that killed one American contractor and injured others, triggered U.S. retaliatory strikes and exchanges of fire.
While there have been no additional attacks in the past 36 hours, the White House spokesperson cautioned that the U.S. would remain vigilant. Iran and Syria have condemned the U.S. strikes, with Syria pledging to end the American occupation of its territory.
Prior to these recent attacks, U.S. troops in Syria had already been attacked by Iranian-backed groups about 78 times since the beginning of 2021.
