The Basotho community in Ethiopia has raised M42,000.00 to support a Mosotho patient battling the rare health condition known as lupus. This generous contribution was made during a fundraising event organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Lesotho in Addis Ababa.

Dr. Monaphathi Maraka, the Minister Counsellor at the Embassy and a qualified nurse, spearheaded the initiative. Having recently concluded her tour of duty, Dr. Maraka has been actively involved in health-related matters and made significant contributions to the African Union Commission, particularly through the Africa CDC.

The event saw a diverse attendance, including Ethiopian staff members of the embassy, diplomats from various African Union member states such as Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Angola, and Uganda. Ambassador H.E. Ntšiuoa Sekete expressed her gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to the cause, which aimed to make a tangible difference in the life of a fellow Mosotho.

The Ambassador also reflected on a message of hope shared by Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Ntsokoane Sam Matekane, during his visit to Ethiopia in February. The Prime Minister urged the community to remain connected to their roots, emphasizing the importance of remembering their origins and preparing for the future back home.
