Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa will co-chair the Eighth South Africa-European Union (SA-EU) Summit in Cape Town on Thursday, 13 March 2025, alongside European Council President António Luís Santos da Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The summit marks a continuation of diplomatic discussions between South Africa and the EU, following recent engagements such as the Joint Cooperation Council (JCC) meeting in Brussels in January and the Ministerial Political Dialogue in Cape Town last month. It is part of the broader SA-EU Strategic Partnership, a distinction held by only ten nations worldwide, with South Africa being the sole African country in this exclusive framework.
As a vital economic ally, the EU is one of South Africa’s largest trade and investment partners, also contributing significant development funding and technical assistance aligned with the National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030. Discussions will cover trade and investment, energy transition, decarbonisation, sustainable supply chains, education, science, and healthcare cooperation.
The summit will take place at Tuynhuys in Cape Town.
