Malawi’s Vice President, Dr. Michael Usi, attended the funeral of the late Dr. John Mataya on Friday at Kapesi Village, Traditional Authority Kachere, in Dedza District.
Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu, speaking on behalf of President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Usi, delivered a condolence message to the Mataya family and the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) community.
Kunkuyu described Dr. Mataya as a man who played significant roles in the civil service, private sector, and religious circles. He noted Dr. Mataya’s commitment to helping the less privileged, particularly through his educational efforts in Njolomole Village.
He also urged the community to adopt the values of love and unity that Dr. Mataya exemplified throughout his life.
Traditional leader Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani V called for unity and cooperation among the bereaved family and community members, stressing the importance of togetherness for development.
Chikumbutso Njolomole, speaking on behalf of the Mataya family, acknowledged Dr. Mataya’s contributions to the church and the community, describing him as a valuable figure who supported many.
