President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, commissioned five envoys at the Jubilee House in Accra, tasking them with strengthening Ghana’s diplomatic engagements and advancing its national interests abroad.
The diplomats include H.E. Mrs. Matilda Aku Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, Ambassador to Austria; H.E. Mrs. Vivian Kafui Akua Asempapa, Ambassador to Senegal; H.E. Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam, Ambassador to Spain; H.E. Mr. McArios Akanbeanab Akanbong, Ambassador to Iran; and H.E. Dr. Senalor Kwabla Yawlui, High Commissioner to Sierra Leone.
President Akufo-Addo described their appointments as recognition of their professional accomplishments and their commitment to public service. He urged the envoys to promote Ghana’s image, foster strong bilateral relations, and attract investments into the country.
He called on the envoys to work with their host governments to address pressing global challenges, including armed conflicts, terrorism, climate change, and illicit financial flows. The President also tasked them with leveraging the expertise of the Ghanaian diaspora to support national development efforts.
The President praised the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration for its efforts in achieving diplomatic milestones, including Ghana’s full membership in the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie and the election of Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey as the next Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
H.E. Mrs. Vivian Kafui Akua Asempapa, speaking on behalf of the newly appointed envoys, expressed gratitude to the President and assured him of their dedication to fulfilling their duties.
The ceremony was attended by Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Deputy Minister Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and families of the envoys.
