Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has marked Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day with a message of encouragement to Nigerians facing hardship and disappointment. In a statement released on Monday, NLC President Joe Ajaero urged citizens to remain resilient and continue to fight for a better future.
Ajaero acknowledged the numerous challenges Nigerians have endured over the years, including broken promises, exploitation, and corruption. He emphasized that despite these setbacks, it is crucial not to lose faith in the country’s potential.
“We urge the downtrodden Nigerians who bear the marks or burden of these broken promises, exploitation, and corruption to not give up hope on their country,” Ajaero stated. “In light of the fact that their sacrifice has been taken for granted for so long, they should learn to protest within the limits of the law against injustices and subversion of democratic norms, culture, and values by the dominant political elite.”
The NLC leader also issued a warning to the political elite, cautioning them against undermining democratic institutions. He stressed that the consequences of their actions have brought the country to a critical point and that it is time for a change.
“It is time to turn a new leaf,” Ajaero declared. “Let it be the beginning of a new era.”
