Tokyo, Japan – Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kiyoto Tsuji met with Algerian Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-Enterprise Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid on Thursday, August 23, to discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

The meeting, held in Tokyo, focused on strengthening economic ties between Japan and Algeria. State Minister Tsuji praised Algeria’s efforts to diversify its industries and support startups, while Minister Oualid welcomed the recent entry into force of the Tax Convention and the Japan-Algeria Intergovernmental Joint Economic Committee Agreement.

Beyond bilateral relations, the ministers also discussed regional issues. State Minister Tsuji expressed Japan’s appreciation for Algeria’s contributions to peace and stability in the Sahel region, particularly through economic development. Minister Oualid outlined Algeria’s efforts to diversify its economy and promote regional integration.

Looking ahead, both sides agreed on the importance of further developing Japan-Algeria relations, especially in preparation for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in 2025.
