South Sudan Pledges Strong Support as IGAD Chair

Juba, South Sudan – South Sudan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba, met with David Kwaje, Head of Mission for the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), on June 13th, 2024. The meeting focused on solidifying cooperation between South Sudan and IGAD, with South Sudan poised to take over the regional bloc’s leadership.

Deputy Minister Kumba warmly welcomed Mr. Kwaje and expressed appreciation for the update on IGAD’s activities. He reaffirmed South Sudan’s unwavering commitment to facilitating IGAD’s work within the country, recognizing its critical role.

“South Sudan stands ready to assume the IGAD chairmanship and actively support its goals and initiatives,” Kumba declared. He emphasized the nation’s new focus on development and its eagerness to back IGAD’s programs.

Mr. Kwaje reciprocated the appreciation, acknowledging the Deputy Minister’s support and enthusiasm. He provided details on South Sudan’s upcoming chairmanship, highlighting capacity-building programs and the Nile River Banks Cleaning Campaign against plastic pollution in Juba.
