Nigeria’s prolific film industry, Nollywood, maintained a healthy production rate in the first quarter of 2024, churning out 274 movies according to the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB).

The NFVCB, a government agency responsible for regulating the film industry, revealed this information in a statement issued by its CEO, Shaibu Husseini. The report encompasses all genres of films approved by the board during this period.

Interestingly, the data shows English-language films dominated production, with 250 out of the 274 films being in English. However, the report also highlights the presence of movies in indigenous Nigerian languages like Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa, showcasing the industry’s linguistic diversity.

The NFVCB report delves further into content classification. It reveals that over half (more than 50%) of the produced films fall under the “18” category, indicating content intended for mature audiences. Films rated “15,” “12,” and those requiring parental guidance (PG) follow in descending order of production numbers.
