Nigeria is preparing to welcome Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, for a visit this May.
The announcement came from the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, with Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, confirming the visit. While details are still emerging, the itinerary is expected to include meetings with Nigerian service members and participation in cultural activities.
This visit holds particular significance for the Invictus Games, a multinational sporting event founded by Prince Harry for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel. Nigeria recently debuted at the games, securing a gold and bronze medal, and is seen as a potential future host nation.
“The visit is to consolidate Nigeria’s stronghold at the game, and the possibility of hosting the event in later years,” the statement explained. Notably, Nigerian Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru, present at last year’s Invictus Games, expressed interest in hosting the event should Nigeria be chosen.
