Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Muslim Council of Elders, led by Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, welcomed the UN General Assembly’s resolution condemning Islamophobia. This coincides with the International Day for Combating Islamophobia on March 15th.
The Council’s Secretary-General, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, hailed the resolution as a “significant step” towards eliminating Islamophobia and building a more peaceful world. He emphasized respecting all religions and beliefs, highlighting Islam’s values of tolerance, justice, and peaceful coexistence.
Abdelsalam called for concrete actions, including legislation, to combat Islamophobia and promote international peace. He commended UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ statement recognizing the positive contributions of Muslims and condemning Islamophobia as a “plague.”
The UN resolution urges member states to fight religious bigotry and enact laws prohibiting violence based on religion.
