The South African Embassy in Tokyo, in collaboration with several leading companies, celebrated the 29th anniversary of South Africa’s first multi-racial democratic elections on 27 April 1994. The celebration, which took place at the Hotel Otani in Tokyo, offered a spectacular view of the 400-year-old Japanese Garden.
The event was hosted by the HE Mr Lulama Smuts Ngonyama, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa. The HE Mr TAKAGI Kei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, was the guest of honor and delivered a message of strong support and friendship to the South African Government and people.
The event was graced by distinguished speakers such as Prof Tshilidzi Marwala, newly appointed Rector of the United Nations University in Tokyo and also Under Secretary-General of the United Nations, as well as Ms Malebelo Maphutha, Head of Market Formation Policy and Measures from SASOL. The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, HE Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini, delivered a virtual congratulatory message to the attendees.
Over 200 guests, including representatives from leading companies such as SASOL, Distell International, UniWines, and Van Loveren Wine Estate, attended the event. The South African Embassy in Tokyo extended its appreciation to SA Tourism, the sponsors, and all the guests who made the event a huge success.
