ADDIS ABABA — May 6, 2025 — Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, met with his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, to deepen ties and formalize a new framework for bilateral cooperation.
The high-level meeting, held in Addis Ababa, culminated in the signing of a General Cooperation Agreement between the two nations. The agreement sets the stage for collaboration across various sectors and establishes a Joint Ministerial Commission to oversee implementation.
Both ministers reaffirmed their shared interest in strengthening diplomatic, economic, and political partnerships, describing the move as a step toward more structured and sustained engagement.
Discussions also touched on pressing regional and continental security matters. The diplomats reiterated the importance of African-led approaches in resolving conflicts, in line with the principle of “African Solutions to African Problems.”
