Gabon’s Constitutional Court has officially validated the presidential victory of General Brice Oligui Nguema, who secured 94.85% of the vote in the recent election. Nguema’s win came against seven other candidates, earning a total of 58,074 votes.
Nguema, who led a coup in August 2023 that ousted long-time leader Ali Bongo and ended a 56-year dynasty, is now poised to lead the oil-rich country. His pledge to focus on economic diversification has gained significant attention, with promises to strengthen agriculture, industry, and tourism in a bid to reduce Gabon’s dependence on oil revenues.
