MASERU, April 23, 2025 — Ministers from Lesotho and South Africa met in Maseru on Wednesday for the second session of the Bi-National Commission (BNC) Council of Ministers, renewing their commitment to collaborative governance, security, and economic development.
The talks were co-chaired by Lesotho’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lejone Mpotjoane, and South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Hon. Ronald Lamola. The meeting brought key government representatives together to assess progress on agreements previously made in Pretoria.

Minister Mpotjoane spoke of the shared history and language between the two neighbours, calling the relationship “familial.” He proposed setting up a dedicated monitoring mechanism to ensure timely execution of agreed actions and to swiftly address any emerging issues.

Lamola said the gathering served as a strategic platform to evaluate joint efforts, particularly in areas such as economic cooperation, migration management, and the fight against transnational crimes including illegal mining. He called on all departments involved to move beyond paperwork and bring projects to life on the ground.
