The newly appointed Ambassador of North Korea to Lesotho, Mr. Jong Song Il, officially presented his Letters of Credence to King Letsie III at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday, April 17, 2025. The ceremony marks the beginning of his diplomatic mission in the Kingdom, succeeding H.E. Mr. Jo Yong Man, who has concluded his tenure.

The diplomatic ties between North Korea and Lesotho have a long history, with notable collaboration including the completion of the Qhobosheaneng Government Complex in Maseru and part of the Setsoto Stadium. However, relations were put on hold in 1986 following a military coup in Lesotho. Diplomatic connections were restored in 2003, paving the way for renewed cooperation between the two nations.
Mr. Jong will cover Lesotho’s diplomatic affairs from Pretoria, South Africa, further strengthening North Korea’s presence in the Southern African region.
