Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has returned from a one-day working visit to Abuja, Nigeria, where he held key discussions with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the visit, Mahama expressed his appreciation for President Tinubu’s presence at his inauguration as Special Guest of Honour, which he described as a symbol of the strong relationship between the two neighboring countries.
The two leaders focused on strengthening the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), particularly in terms of enhancing economic integration and cooperation. They also addressed the growing threats of terrorism and violent extremism in the region, underlining the need for a more collaborative effort to maintain peace and security.
Mahama also took the opportunity to brief President Tinubu, who currently serves as Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State, on his recent talks with the leaders of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. The discussions were centered on regional security and the ongoing efforts to address political instability in those countries.
