LILONGWE, March 11, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Patricia Nangozo Kainga met with Japanese Ambassador Youichi Oya on Tuesday to discuss expanding economic collaboration between Malawi and Japan.
Kainga expressed appreciation for Japan’s long-standing support, which has contributed to infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, and disaster risk management. She called for deeper engagement, particularly in the Mega Farms Initiative and solar irrigation systems, citing Japan’s advanced expertise in climate-smart agriculture and mechanization.
Ambassador Oya acknowledged the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations, dating back to 1964, and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to increasing investment in Malawi’s agriculture and mining sectors.
