LILONGWE, March 10, 2025 – Malawi and Mozambique have agreed to accelerate the implementation of the One Stop Border Post (OSBP) at Dedza and Mwanza, utilizing existing infrastructure on the Malawian side while awaiting the construction of OSBP facilities at Mozambique’s Calomue and Zobue border points.

The decision was reached during a bilateral meeting held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, where senior officials from both countries discussed ways to streamline cross-border trade and movement.

Malawi’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, Wezi Moyo, and Mozambique’s High Commissioner to Malawi, Alexandre Herculano Manjate, co-chaired the discussions. They both reiterated the commitment of their respective governments to fully operationalize the OSBP, following an agreement made by their heads of state during a bilateral meeting in Maputo in August 2024.

Following an assessment of the Dedza and Mwanza border facilities, officials proposed the formation of a Joint Working Committee comprising representatives from all relevant agencies in both countries. The committee is set to meet at the border posts between March 25 and 29 to resolve sector-specific issues before reporting to a plenary session scheduled for April 9-12 in Tete, Mozambique.
