King Mswati III Launches Maguga Hydropower Expansion

King Mswati III commissions the Maguga Hydropower expansion project, increasing capacity to 30MW.

On March 1st, 2025, His Majesty King Mswati III officially commissioned the expansion of the Maguga Hydropower Project, which will add 10MW to the station’s output, bringing its total capacity to 30MW.

The King was also briefed on other projects in the Maguga area, including a proposed power generation initiative at Ngwemphisi, which is expected to produce 120MW of electricity.

During his visit to the Maguga Dam, His Majesty raised concerns about the condition of the Maguga Road. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini assured the King that the government would address the issue urgently.
