Eswatini has opened its first Advanced Aquaculture Research and Production Centre, a milestone in strengthening food security and economic opportunities in the region. Prime Minister Russell Dlamini, represented by Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka, inaugurated the facility, which aims to address the shortage of fingerlings essential for fish farming.
The centre will produce young fish stock at scale and advance research on sustainable aquaculture practices to improve efficiency and productivity.

During the launch, the Prime Minister emphasized the role of aquaculture in addressing malnutrition and stunted growth, particularly among children. He highlighted fish as an affordable protein source with significant potential for economic empowerment, especially in rural areas.
Dlamini also expressed gratitude to the Government of Taiwan for its support in establishing the facility.
