The Council on Foreign Relations, Ghana (CFR-Ghana), visited the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Tuesday, 25th February 2025. The delegation, led by Ambassador Kabral Blay-Amihere, included Ambassadors Kwame Tenkorang, Akua Dansua, Yaw Odei Asare, and Lady-Ann Essuman.
Minister Ablakwa welcomed the delegation and provided updates on his recent activities. He shared outcomes from his courtesy calls with former Ministers of Foreign Affairs and his participation in the African Union’s 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council in Addis Ababa. During this session, three Ghanaians were elected to key positions within the African Union Commission.
The Minister also discussed the ongoing review of Ghana’s foreign policy and the introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Ambassadors. He mentioned the creation of an Advisory Board, where CFR-Ghana members’ expertise would play a crucial role. Ablakwa also noted the Ministry’s plans to work with the Council on measures to fully operationalize the Foreign Service Institute (FSI).
Ambassador Blay-Amihere congratulated the Minister and praised the Ministry’s professional team. He also expressed the Council’s readiness to collaborate on developing the FSI’s curriculum, envisioning the Institute as a regional center of excellence for diplomats.
