Johannesburg, South Africa – Healthcare and financial services provider KoraMed has signed an agreement with the Mzimba Heritage Association (Mziha) to offer funeral repatriation and financial services to Malawians living in South Africa. The initiative aims to enroll 1000 members by March 1, 2025, providing much-needed support to the Malawian diaspora.

KoraMed CEO Gugu Mabuza said the company is committed to providing affordable services for African communities. “We are already operating in Angola and Ghana and looking to expand further across the continent,” she said. She also clarified that while KoraMed focuses on funeral and repatriation coverage along with financial services, it is not currently offering healthcare services for MZIHA group.

Mziha, which has a chapter in Johannesburg, works to preserve Malawian culture and assist students from Mzimba District in accessing education. The association also advocates for Malawians in South Africa, engaging with authorities to simplify bureaucratic processes such as work permit applications.

Malawians have been migrating to South Africa since the late 19th century, particularly from districts such as Mzimba, Nkhata Bay, and Mangochi. Many migrants face challenges due to limited formal education and skills. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has previously assisted some in returning to Malawi.

KoraMed provides financial and logistical support for African expatriates, including funeral repatriation, money transfer services, and post-treatment recovery programs. The partnership with Mziha is expected to ease financial burdens on Malawians in South Africa while reinforcing community ties.
