The Border Management Authority (BMA) successfully facilitated the arrival of dignitaries for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Johannesburg, which started on February 19, 2025, and runs until February 22, 2025. The meeting is being held at Nasrec, Johannesburg, under South Africa’s G20 Presidency.
Working alongside law enforcement, the BMA ensured smooth and secure processing of the Foreign Ministers. Additional staff were deployed at OR Tambo International and Lanseria International Airports, and dedicated immigration counters were set up to speed up the processing for delegates.
South Africa assumed the G20 Presidency on December 1, 2024, leading up to the G20 Heads of State and Government Summit scheduled for November 2025. Various sectoral Ministerial meetings will be held throughout the year.
At the opening of the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, President Cyril Ramaphosa discussed the importance of holding the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Africa, noting Africa’s rapid economic growth and its unique challenges, including climate change and the impact of global trade. The meeting’s theme is ‘Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability.’
