Zimbabwe has launched the Digital Skills Ambassadors Program, a partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Huawei, to expand access to digital education. The initiative, launched today in the presence of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, aims to train 1.5 million coders over the next three years.
Led by Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, the program will focus on programming, data science, Android development, and other digital skills. Training will be delivered through Huawei’s DigiTruck mobile classrooms, virtual sessions using the UDACITY application, and revamped Community Information Centres (CICs), soon to be renamed digital centers.
The initiative will bring digital education to rural areas through digital ambassadors tasked with reaching communities at the village level. Mavetera acknowledged stakeholders supporting the initiative and said the government remains committed to expanding digital access across the country.
