The South African Department of Small Business Development has updated Parliament on the progress of Spaza shop registrations following the extension of the registration deadline to February 28, 2025.
Minister for Small Business Development Stella Tembisa Ndabeni led a delegation, including Director-General Thulisile Manzini and Acting CEO of the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency Nkosikhona Mbatha, to present before the Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development.
The committee was briefed on the challenges affecting the registration process and measures taken to support Spaza shop owners. Officials noted that Natjoints and other oversight bodies are working with various departments to address delays, particularly at municipal licensing centers.
