Ethiopia and Madagascar are looking to deepen their bilateral relations following talks between Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Gedion Timothewos and Madagascar’s Foreign Minister Rasata Rafaravavitafika at the 38th African Union Summit.
The ministers focused on a range of areas for collaboration, including trade, tourism, investment, and climate-related matters. They also discussed ways to advance shared interests in biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and heritage management.
Dr. Gedion proposed that both nations could enhance cooperation through experience sharing in key economic sectors and by working together on continental integration efforts. He also highlighted the potential for greater collaboration via Joint Ministerial Commissions and Political Consultations.
Minister Rafaravavitafika thanked Ethiopia for its warm welcome and expressed Madagascar’s readiness to strengthen ties, particularly in areas such as heritage management, as demonstrated by the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum. She also pointed to Ethiopia’s progress in economic development, aviation, and environmental conservation as areas for further cooperation.
