February 15, 2025 – Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, was elected to chair the African Union Commission during a summit in Addis Ababa. The election came at a time when concerns about the escalating conflict in Congo and its potential to spread across the region were at the forefront of discussions.
Ilyas Dawaleh, Djibouti’s economy and finance minister, confirmed Youssouf’s election through a post on the X platform.
