Eswatini’s fight against malaria received a major boost following a visit by the End Malaria Board to the Private and Cabinet Office on February 7, 2025. The delegation, led by Acting Chairperson Ms. Fikile Nkosi, included renowned humanitarian and musician Yvonne Chaka Chaka Mhinga, along with Ms. Futhi Tembe, CEO of the Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF). Their visit reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to eliminating malaria.
A key moment of the visit was the announcement of the End Malaria Fund Gala Dinner, scheduled for May 9, 2025. The event aims to raise E800,000 to support malaria intervention programs, demonstrating the strong partnership among stakeholders working to eradicate the disease.
The delegation also thanked Cabinet for endorsing the ‘Zero Malaria Starts With Me’ Pledge, a crucial step in reinforcing Eswatini’s commitment to a malaria-free future. Cabinet’s contribution of E70,000 to the Fund was also noted as a significant gesture of support.
Discussions focused on the Malaria Elimination Scorecard, a tool designed to track progress and identify gaps in malaria prevention. The End Malaria Board plans to use the scorecard to address areas with insufficient malaria measures and ensure all Tinkhundla centres receive the necessary support.
Additionally, Ms. Cynthia Prime, CEO of Saving Orphans through Healthcare and Outreach (SOHO), was introduced as part of the delegation. SOHO focuses on supporting vulnerable groups, particularly in addressing gender-based violence (GBV). The organization’s partnership with the Eswatini Action Group Against Abuse (ESWAGGA) offers trauma-informed counselling to GBV survivors, complementing the broader efforts to build a safer and healthier society.
