Lesotho’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Retselisitsoe Matlanyane, participated in two key panel discussions at the “2025 Dialogue on Public Finance and the Sustainable Development Goals” in New York from January 29-31, 2025. The event, co-hosted by the Governments of Finland and Norway, Columbia University, and UNDP, was a precursor to the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), set for June 30 to July 3, 2025, in Spain.
The dialogue focused on exchanging knowledge about public finance strategies for sustainable development, generating recommendations for FFD4, and fostering new partnerships. Dr. Matlanyane addressed the panel on Public Finance for Children, sharing Lesotho’s approach to sustainable public finance.
He also participated in a session on Integrated National Financing Frameworks (INFF), discussing how INFF is helping Lesotho achieve coherence in national policies, public-private institutions, and fiscal instruments.
Ms. Mathabo Mokoko, Lesotho’s Commissioner General for Revenue Services, also attended the event as a panellist for the session on “Africa and the SDGs: Domestic Resource Mobilization as the Panacea for Development Financing in Africa.”
