President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for a joint sitting of Parliament on 6 February 2025, during which he will deliver the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of the seventh democratic Parliament.
The address, scheduled for 7:00 PM at Cape Town City Hall, will bring together the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. The sitting is in line with Section 84(2)(d) of the Constitution, which allows the President to summon Parliament for special business.
During SONA, President Ramaphosa will present the government’s achievements, address challenges, and outline plans for the coming financial year. The speech marks the start of the parliamentary year and sets out key policy priorities.
The address will be broadcast live on Parliament TV (DSTV Channel 408) and Parliament’s YouTube Channel.
