JOHANNESBURG, Jan 15 – Heavy rainfall and flooding have forced South Africa to temporarily close the Grobler’s Bridge border crossing with Botswana, according to the Border Management Authority (BMA).
The crossing, a vital trade route linking Botswana and South Africa’s Limpopo province, facilitates cargo movement from the Copperbelt region in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the port of Durban.

The BMA stated that the decision to halt operations followed consultations with Botswana authorities and recommendations from the Port Management Committee. “The temporary suspension of operations is necessary to prioritize safety,” the agency said in a statement, advising travelers and transport operators to seek alternative routes.
Limpopo province experienced significant rainfall over the weekend, worsening conditions at the border crossing and prompting the precautionary measure.
