Two Somali fishermen, Ibrahim Mohamud Ali and Sharmake Nuur Abdi Aadan, have been safely reunited with their families in Mogadishu after being stranded at sea for 25 days. The fishermen, whose boat’s engine failed, were rescued by a Chinese vessel about 130 nautical miles off Seychelles.
The rescue was made possible through the coordinated efforts of Somali Ambassador to China, Dr. Hodan Osman, who worked with international partners, including the Huatai Insurance Agency and the crew of the Chinese vessel, to secure their rescue.
Dr. Osman also collaborated with Said Ali Mire, the Director of Asia and Australia Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to arrange emergency travel documents, allowing the men to return to Somalia. Upon their arrival in Mogadishu, the fishermen thanked the Somali government and the Chinese crew for their efforts.
