Accra, January 6 – Twenty-one Heads of State are confirmed to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Black Star Square. The Ministry of Information announced the participation of three Vice Presidents, four Ministers, and 24 foreign envoys.

The ceremony will include a relocated parliamentary session, with seating arrangements at the venue designed to mimic the parliamentary chamber. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Clerk of Parliament, stated that construction at the site is 80% complete. “The speaker’s base and overall setup replicate what we have in Parliament,” Djietror said in an interview on Sunday.

Djietror also urged members of the incoming 9th Parliament to focus on their legislative duties instead of partisan agendas. “Parliamentarians must uphold their responsibility to promote national interests and development,” he said.

Guests are expected to be seated by 8:30 a.m., with Members of Parliament and dignitaries arriving ahead of the Speaker, who will escort the President-elect and Vice President-elect into the Chamber for the 11:00 a.m. proceedings.

Press accreditation for the event is mandatory. Journalists can collect their passes from the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) office. Media outlets requiring a clean broadcast feed must meet a minimum internet speed of 4mbps.

To facilitate the ceremony, key roads in Accra will be closed, including 28th February Road, Castle Road, and Starlet 91 Road. Traffic will be redirected to alternate routes, while designated parking areas include Independence Arch, State House Forecourt, and Marine Drive Football Park. Unauthorized parking will not be permitted.
