Accra, Ghana – President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has reassured Ghanaians of the nation’s democratic stability after the recently concluded elections.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, December 11, Mahama described the electoral process as a victory for democracy and the nation. “Democracy and Ghana are the ultimate winners in this electoral process,” he wrote. “Despite the anxieties that many had ahead of the election and on voting day, Ghana has once again proven its commitment to democratic principles.”

Mahama also stressed the need for bipartisan collaboration to strengthen Ghana’s democratic foundations. “Our democracy is secure, and by working together across bipartisan lines, we can continue to deepen and strengthen it,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Mahama met with outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra as part of the transition process. During the meeting, the President briefed him on security and economic matters. Mahama described the interaction as cordial and expressed appreciation for Akufo-Addo’s congratulatory phone call earlier in the week, calling it a mark of statesmanship.

In his own statement, Akufo-Addo reflected on the meeting, saying, “This morning, I welcomed President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to Jubilee House. Our meeting was cordial, reflecting the spirit of unity and respect that binds us as Ghanaians, regardless of political differences.”

The President added, “As leaders, our ultimate responsibility is to serve the people of Ghana and ensure a seamless transition for the benefit of our beloved nation. We discussed critical national matters and reaffirmed our commitment to working together to preserve the peace, stability, and progress that Ghana continues to enjoy.”

Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to remain united as the country transitions to new leadership. “Let us continue to uphold the values of respect, tolerance, and collaboration that define who we are as a people. May God bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong,” he concluded.

Later in the day, the Joint Transition Team was scheduled to be inaugurated to facilitate a smooth transfer of power.
