Burkina Faso’s military-led administration has named Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo as the country’s new prime minister following the dismissal of his predecessor, Apollinaire Joachim Kyelem de Tambela. The announcement, made on Saturday, comes a day after the government was dissolved without explanation.
Ouedraogo, who previously served as the communication minister and government spokesperson, steps into the role during a period of political transition under junta leader Ibrahim Traoré. Traoré has held power since seizing control in a coup in September 2022.
The reasons for Tambela’s removal remain unclear, leaving analysts speculating about internal shifts within the transitional administration. Tambela had been appointed shortly after the junta’s rise to power and was tasked with steering the country through its tumultuous transition.
