The President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira, held discussions today with South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, in their first meeting since Lamola’s appointment as Foreign Minister.
Chief Charumbira called on South Africa, as the host country of the PAP, to support efforts to advance regional initiatives. A central focus of the talks was the ratification of the Malabo Protocol, aimed at expanding the legislative and oversight functions of the Pan-African Parliament.
The meeting also explored the need for institutional reforms within the African Union (AU) and the PAP’s role in promoting unity and development across the continent. Charumbira raised the issue of funding, stressing its importance in enabling the Parliament to carry out its mandate.
Chief Charumbira congratulated Lamola on his appointment and thanked South Africa for providing the facilities and resources essential to the Parliament’s operations.
