Lusaka, Zambia – Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, met with Tunisia’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Ben Ayed, on Tuesday.

The two ministers discussed ways to bolster the existing strong bilateral relationship between the two nations, which has spanned over five decades. They emphasized the shared values and interests that underpin this bond.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the mutual agreement to establish permanent diplomatic missions in both countries. This move is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties and facilitate increased cooperation in various sectors.

Minister Haimbe expressed gratitude to Tunisia for its continued support in the education sector, particularly through the provision of scholarships to Zambian students. He also called for enhanced trade and investment collaboration, especially within the framework of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

To further deepen the relationship, the ministers agreed to revive the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC) meetings. The first meeting is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2025.

Mr. Ayed is currently in Zambia to attend the 45th Meeting of the COMESA Council of Ministers, which is being held in Lusaka today.
