Prince William met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Cape Town on Tuesday as part of his four-day visit to the country. The Prince of Wales is in South Africa for the Earthshot Prize awards, which will take place on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Prince William joined rangers and conservationists for a nature walk at Table Mountain National Park. The meeting with President Ramaphosa was a key part of his visit, which also includes a global wildlife summit and other climate-focused engagements.
Video shared by the South African presidency showed the two leaders greeting each other warmly at the start of their meeting. The presidency highlighted that the visit underscores the strong ties between the United Kingdom and South Africa, particularly through the Royal Family.
This year’s Earthshot Prize awards in South Africa have added significance, drawing attention to the impact of climate change and environmental degradation in Africa. The prize, launched in 2020, awards £1 million ($1.3 million) each to five winners for their innovative environmental projects.
