Bjerringbro, Denmark – Nigeria is actively seeking advanced water technology solutions from Denmark to address its pressing water challenges, a Nigerian trade official has stated.
Nosakhare Aigiomawu, a Trade Facilitator representing Nigerian interests, participated in the GRUNDFOS hosted water meeting yesterday. He highlighted the critical importance of water security and the significant water crisis facing Nigeria.
“Less than 10% of Nigerians have access to basic water and sanitation facilities,” Aigiomawu said. “Only 14% of schools and 7% of hospitals have reliable water supply. Moreover, 3 out of 10 Nigerians lack access to clean water near their homes.”

Aigiomawu emphasized the need for sustainable and intentional water sector development plans across Nigeria’s 36 states and Federal Capital Territory. He noted that the country requires advanced water pumps, valves, fittings, and water testing, purification, and treatment technologies. Additionally, energy-efficient solutions are crucial to address Nigeria’s high energy costs.
The trade official also expressed concern over the low level of irrigation in Nigeria, which poses a significant threat to food security. He emphasized the need to bridge the gap in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation.
Aigiomawu extended an invitation to Danish companies to partner with Nigerian businesses to develop local capacity and transfer technology and knowledge. He highlighted the potential for significant market opportunities in Nigeria, despite its challenges.
