Former Tanzanian Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda has been appointed to head the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) for Botswana’s 2024 elections. Pinda, accompanied by his team, met with Botswana’s Minister for State President, Kabo Morwaeng, during a courtesy visit ahead of their election oversight role.

Pinda praised Botswana for its enduring commitment to democracy and its strong track record of holding free and fair elections. He pointed out that this commitment has positively impacted the country’s stability and economic progress.

Minister Morwaeng assured Pinda and the observers that they would have the necessary access to fulfill their duties, including traveling freely across the country to monitor the electoral process.

Botswana is expecting around 70 international representatives from various countries and organizations, including the African Union (AU), to participate in the observation mission.
