Ikeja, Lagos — Residents of Ikeja breathed a collective sigh of relief as philanthropist Abisola Omisore organized a large-scale food distribution drive yesterday, providing essential items to hundreds of families grappling with economic hardship. The event, which took place at the Baale Alausa Palace on Makinde Street, saw residents flock to the venue in search of much-needed assistance.
By 9:30 a.m., Omisore arrived at the palace, accompanied by his team and members of the press, including Channels News and Lagos Daily News. The crowd, already gathered and eager, waited anxiously as the event was officially opened with interfaith prayers from both Christian and Muslim clerics.
The distribution process was meticulously organized to avoid any disorder. Organizers outlined strict guidelines for receiving the palliatives, with residents asked to queue in single file to ensure a smooth and orderly flow. At exactly 10:00 a.m., the distribution began. Each individual was given a package containing 10kg of rice, garri, and five pieces of spaghetti—items that many families in the area desperately needed.
As the crowd swelled, tensions rose, leading to brief chaos. The growing number of attendees created difficulties in maintaining the orderly system, which slowed down the distribution. By 11:45 a.m., the situation became untenable, prompting organizers to relocate the distribution to a different section of the venue in an effort to ease congestion and restore calm.
Despite the disruption, the event remained a resounding success. Residents expressed their gratitude to Omisore, whose initiative they said offered significant relief in the midst of the country’s economic crisis.

Interview with Beneficiaries Many of those who received the palliatives shared their appreciation for Omisore’s effort. “He has truly lightened our burden,” said one resident. “We’ve been struggling with the rising cost of food, and this gesture means a lot to us. We’re grateful.”

“The economic situation and the hardship people are facing inspired me. I felt it was time to give back to the community. I grew up here, and I’ve seen firsthand the struggles of the people. While this initiative won’t completely solve the hunger crisis, it will reduce it and provide some relief.”
By the end of the event, hundreds of families had received food supplies, and many returned home smiling, singing praises for Omisore. For some, the food relief was a momentary reprieve in what has been a difficult period.
