Apia, Samoa – October 20, 2024 – The Pacific island nation of Samoa is gearing up to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024. Over 4,000 delegates from across the Commonwealth are expected to attend the summit, which will take place next week.

Samoa’s Prime Minister, Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa, expressed her excitement in welcoming the Commonwealth family to her island home. “Guided by the fa’asamoa, our Samoan way of life, my government and the people of Samoa eagerly anticipate hosting this important event,” she said.

His Majesty King Charles III, accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Camilla, will attend CHOGM as part of an official State Visit. This will be King Charles’ first visit to Samoa as Head of the Commonwealth.

The mood in Apia is festive as the CHOGM approaches. Villages throughout Samoa have adopted Commonwealth member states and are decorating their communities to welcome visitors. The Samoa Tourism Authority has coordinated a beautification program to enhance the island’s appearance.

Local businesses, such as Sails Restaurant, are also preparing for the influx of visitors. Owner Lyvia Hansell-Black noted that CHOGM will bring long-term benefits to Samoa through increased tourism and economic activity.

Samoa has invested heavily in infrastructure and hospitality to ensure a successful CHOGM. Roads have been repaired, the airport has been upgraded, and hotels have been renovated. These improvements will continue to benefit the country for years to come.

The Samoa National Task Force, led by Prime Minister Mata’afa, has been working tirelessly to prepare for the summit. The task force has coordinated with government ministries and agencies to ensure that everything is in place for the arrival of delegates.
