Accra, Ghana – October 15, 2024 – Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have further strengthened their bilateral relationship through a successful Strategic Partnership Summit held in Abidjan from October 8th to 11th, 2024.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana, at the invitation of President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire, co-led the Heads of State Conference on October 11th. The conference focused on key areas of cooperation, including defense and security, cocoa and cashew economies, economic policies, and regional and international affairs.
Additional areas of discussion included animal, fisheries, and aquaculture resources, cross-border land and maritime cooperation, mining and energy, environment, economy, trade and industry, transport, road equipment, and maintenance.

The Joint Implementation and Monitoring Committee Meeting, co-chaired by Ghanaian Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and her Ivorian counterpart Léon Kacou ADOM, took place on October 10th. This meeting was preceded by a Joint Technical Committee Meeting from October 8th to 9th.

Several legal instruments, including a Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Assistance in Custom Matters, a Framework for Cooperation in Agriculture, and a Military Cooperation Agreement, were considered for signing at a later date. Negotiations are also ongoing for a Cooperation Agreement in the area of energy resources development.
The Governors of the Bank of Ghana and the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) discussed the need to accelerate the adoption of the common currency, the Eco, for West Africa.
